St Valentine of Rome.

Priest in Rome, possibly a bishop. Physician. Imprisoned for giving aid to martyrs in prison, and while there converted the jailer by restoring sight to the jailer's daughter.

There are several theories about the origin of Valentine's Day celebrations. Some believe the Romans had a mid-February custom where boys drew girls' names in honor of the sex and fertility goddess, Februata Juno; pastors "baptised" this holiday, like some others, by substituting the names of saints such as Valentine to suppress the practice. Others maintain that the custom of sending Valentines on February 14^th stems from the belief that birds begin to pair on that date. By 1477 the English associated lovers with the feast of Valentine because on that day "every bird chooses him a mate." The custom started of men and women writing love letters to their Valentine on this day. Other "romance" traditions have become attached to this feast, including pinning bay leaves to your pillow on Valentine's Eve so that you will see your future mate that night in your dreams.

I was sitting in my kitchen and eating some 'Dove Dark Chocolate Promises' that my grandmother got for me. I love my grandmother. I love dark chocolate too. Concordantly, i was enjoying eating these particular chocolates. To make the experience even better, Mars inc. puts little phrases on the insides of the wrappers, so while you're enjoying the chocolate you can reflect on morsels of soul stirring prose...little phrases like "Remember to laugh out loud" and perhaps, "Add a little sweetness to your day"....the generalized type of poetic loaf you'd expect the Man to pinch off for you which tends to poison the otherwise glorious sensation of tasting dark chocolate. At first i thought that they might just put these phrases in there so that when you read them youd remember to throw the wrapper away, maybe even shove it to the bottom of the trash can to make sure it ends up at that land fill over in Palatka or somewhere...but then i got down to the bottom of the bag, took the final chocolate, opened it up and read the 'Promise'. It just goes to show that every once in a while someone upstairs will tell you the things you really need to hear, when you really need to hear them in the most miraculous of ways. I even scanned the wrapper so that others can experience this slice of truth that I've been blessed with.

Now we all have something to tell our physician next time he laughs under his breath during a physical...

If you didnt know, i just got back yesterday from the hospital. i was there for 11 days.

i fell of my skateboard on a sunny day...the day after the ib art show actually. Jeff, Jonathan, Graham and i were just skating and chillen in Hidden Hills...just having a good time. Luckily jeff took some sweet pics to document this historic moment. its starnge cause we werent doing anything crazy. we'd only been skating for about 10 minutes when i busted. we have done MUCH crazier things on the longboards and im suprised we arent all dead already to be honest. But anyway...

this is acutally a pic jeff took as i was going down the hill RIGHT before i fell... i mean it was seconds after this. pretty amazing. i apparently did some kind of 180 slide and fell backwards off the board. luckily the back of my head broke my fall. then my face was kind enough to keep me from rolling down the hill. i guess i was unconcious for a while, then jeff and graham moved me onto the side of the street when i came to and helped me out. jeff took this pic.

at this point i still couldnt talk. or remeber why i was outside.

They took me to matt shers house .. which i really dont remember either and my parents came and got me and brought me to the hospital. i ended up getting all sorts of CT scans and MRIs and fun stuff like that. apparently if i had hit my head an inch in any other direction i would be paralyzed from the neck down right now. I had a concusion and fractured my skull from top to bottom. it hurts still. im gonna be at home for 3 weeks cause im not allowed to leave the place... and i cant drive for 6... so ill be around for a while if anyone wants to come on by and watch a movie or something! life is an adventure. i feel very blessed. god loves us man. so i drew a pi on Paint to demonstrate that.
